Currently Principal of Halifax Dance and Artistic Director of the Young Company, Alicia began her study of dance in Toronto, continued her training at Halifax Dance and participated in a variety of professional study programs in Toronto and New York. She has taught and danced professionally since 1996. In 2001, Alicia co-founded Mocean Dance, was co-artistic director (2001-2006), and has since continued with the company as a full-time dancer. She was also founder, administrator and instructor of “Feet to the Beat”, which infused dance into local HRM elementary schools (2002-2005). She has been a student, a Young Company member, a dance instructor (1996-2008) and member of the Artistic Advisory Committee of Halifax Dance (2002-2007), as well as rehearsal director and artistic advisor for The Nutcracker (2005-present). Locally, she is known for her appearances as Clara in Symphony Nova Scotia’s The Nutcracker (1999-2004) and is pleased to be returning as Clara this year for the Nutcracker’s 20th Anniversary. Alicia has performed the work of nationally acclaimed choreographers and directors such as Allen and Karen Kaeja, Howard Richard, Roger Sinha, Veronique MacKenzie, Gwen Noah, Andrea Leigh-Smith, Leica Hardy, Mary Ellen MacLean, Susie Burpee, Lisa Phinney Langley and recently performed in the feature film entitled Snow, directed by Rohan Fernando. Alicia additionally holds a BSc in Neuroscience from Dalhousie University and is a mother of two.
