Gillian Seaward-Boone began her dance training in her native province of Nova Scotia, completing an intensive training program in Halifax. Parallel to this, she obtained her undergraduate degree in Anthropology and International Development from Dalhousie University. In 2004, she continued her training at LADMMI (l'Ecole de Danse Contemporaine de Montreal). After graduation in 2006, she worked with Montreal-based choreographers Roger Sinha, Lucie Grégoire, and Paula de Vasconcelos, among others.
Gillian joined O Vertigo Dance company in 2007, when she danced in "Etude #3 pour cordes et poulies." She has then performed in every show the company presented since 2007 until taking maternity leave in 2013. She has performed extensively throughout Europe, Asia, North and South America. During her time as a full company member with O Vertigo, Gillian independantly participated in numerous choreographic research laboratories with Sasha Ivanochko, performed at the Montreal Fringe Festival, the CanAsian Festival and Dusk Dances in Toronto, and participated in projects with SINS in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She has served as rehearsal director for numerous independent artists, and has a long-standing relationship as guest rehearsal director for the company Destins Croises in Montreal.
Gillian regularly teaches professional contemporary technique classes and has been a faculty member for numerous contemporary dance intensives and workshops to pre-professional and professional dancers throughout Canada and Europe. Excited to embark on new artistic endeavours in the Maritimes, Gillian is currently based out of Halifax and is thrilled to finally be dancing alongside her friends in Mocean Dance.
