The performance for the student body was exciting and held the students’ attention from start to finish. Not an easy task when your audience ranges from grade primary to seven! The dance workshop was very well attended and the students expressed disappointment to me that it was only a one-day experience. They wanted more!

What the schools are saying

"Mocean Dance provided our school with a very unique dance experience. These performers were professional, helpful, and knowledgeable. Our students had a great time while being exposed to movement opportunities not normally presented in a school setting."
- Matt Haliburton, Teacher, Shelburne Regional High School

"I was mesmerized from beginning to end with the truly artistic, emotional and professional performance. It represents the artistic essence of athletics. Watching the human body move in such a fluid yet powerful way is a beautiful experience. How lucky Halifax can claim that we are home base to a company that can look forward to international success."
- Kathy Townsend, Teacher

"Mocean, through their performances and workshops, makes modern dance an approachable, inspiring, and fascinating experience. Their workshops are non-threatening and participants are amazed by their own ability to create."
- Michelle MacMillan-Turner, Teacher, Sir John A. Macdonald High School

"I especially like the writing activity that we did, and how we all created a dance from our own thoughts. It gave us a chance to look within ourselves and to express what we were feeling. When we presented them to the other class it all came together really nicely. Overall it was a fun and informative afternoon. Thank you for putting on this workshop for our class. I really got a lot out of it."
- Candace Tattrie, Grade 11

"I was extremely impressed with your presentation. It really made me look deep into myself and think about what was trying to be expressed to me. This type of dance is something I had never seen before, and you made the first experience a good one. You could just see all the emotion and passion put into it. It really inspired me to put a new twist on my own dancing style. I also enjoyed the workshop. I learned a lot from the way you broke things down and had us do them over and over until we got it. Thanks a lot for coming."
- Nicki Chapdelaine, Grade 11

"WOW!!!! I had so much fun in your workshop. I loved taking my memories and feelings and putting them into movements and expressing myself to everyone. I also loved the steps and movements you showed us. I hope we can put something like that into our final performance at the end of the year! I really truly loved your performance and workshop."
- Sarah, Grade 11

"I have to admit that when I heard we were going to be doing a modern dance workshop, and that after watching the videos, I wasn't really looking forward to it. But, as soon as you started performing, I was really captivated by it all. There was something so amazing about the way you guys move and it definitely changed my opinion on modern dance. The workshop was a little scary for me, being so open with the way you move, and trying to present something so personal was really hard for me to do, but I'm really glad I did it. It was so cool watching everyone's dances. Thank you once more for a great performance and really fun workshop."
- Shannon, Grade 11
