Paid Positions for Emerging Production Managers and
Emerging Costume Designers
with support from NSDCCH’s Cultural Opportunities for Youth program
Mocean Dance seeks emerging, pre-professional or student-based technical production assistance for the company’s HRM outreach initiative, The Gen Y Project. The 2012 Gen Y Project provides 11 pre-professional dancers the opportunity to work with Interim Artistic Director, Sara Coffin, in creating a new dance piece to be performed this spring at the Neptune Studio Theatre (March 3-4, 2012) and the Sir James Dunn Theatre (May 11-12, 2012).
Costume Designer is needed to create original costumes for this year’s Gen Y piece. The costume designer will have access to supportive consultation and mentorship with Mocean’s experienced collaborator, costume designer Rachael Grant. Fees are provided for design, material and construction. Selected candidate must be able to work independently, work within project deadline guidelines, and have access to a sewing machine. Experience with design and budget management is an assets but not necessary. This position starts immediately. Performance weekends are March 3 -4 and May 11-12, 2012, and rehearsals for cast measurements and fittings are on Saturdays 10:30-1:30.
Technical Direction / Production Management mentorship is available for an emerging or pre-professional student. Selected candidate will shadow Mocean’s Technical Director Marcel Boulet, and will gain experience in backstage protocol, lighting design, and learn to call and document the necessary cues for a dance show. This is a part-time position, and the candidate must be available for both performance weekends: March 3 -4 and May 11-12, 2012. Selected candidate must be adaptable and able to follow instructions.
