Cory Bowles

 Originally from Truro, Nova Scotia, Cory is the principle choreographer and director of the companies Verve Mwendo and THiNK?TaNK Creation. He has created over 40 works for the stage, music and a variety of other media. Before he was out of high school he formed the band Hip Club Groove with whom he toured for Universal Records, and appeared in several music videos. In 1999 he focused on dance and became a scholarship student at Decidedly Jazz Danceworks in Calgary, which led to touring with the company and teaching at the school.


As a black Nova Scotian, Bowles has a strong passion for his cultural background, and his home storytelling traditions of the African Diaspora. He continues to study its traditions and advancements, traveling from coast to coast, the Caribbean, Brazil and Africa to study afro-roots. He has studies creation and choreography with many of North America's most renowned. He is a sought after teacher and instructor, his workshops taking him from Nova Scotia, to the West, the Arctic, and the Banff Centre for the Arts where he was a senior artist in the Aboriginal Arts Program.


Besides danding, Bowles acted in the television series Trailer Park Boys, provides the voice for the animated series Poko, plays with the musical duo Flux Dynamo and works the theatre stage. He has received a Gemini Award for his work on Trailer Park Boys and still appears in numerous independent works. He also continues to choreograph for film and music videos, and mentors young choreographers. Live from the Flash Pan is his first work for Mocean Dance.
