Lisa Phinney Langley

Currently living and working in Halifax, Lisa Phinney Langley is a contemporary dance artist and Environment Canada scientist.  Her searching in both art and science is rooted in a belief in fundamental beauty, that diverse experiences, perceptions and thoughts can be traced back to a singular truth.

Lisa trained at Halifax Dance and was a member of the Young Company before attending the School of Toronto Dance Theatre and continuing her training with master teachers from across Canada.  As a creator Lisa has investigated creative process with Tedd Robinson, Susie Burpee, and Lesandra Dodson.  Her work has been described as “dynamic and compelling”, prompting one reviewer to state, “Conservationists take note: If you want people to pay attention, partner with an artist.”

Lisa is co-founder with dance artist Sarah Rozee and spoken word artist Ardath Whynacht of The Room, an exploration space focussing on the delicate initial stage of collaborative research and creation.  In 2010, together with visual artist Peter Dykhuis and musician Sageev Oore they founded PHIN Performing Arts to support the creation of multi-disciplinary performance works and enhance the creative development of the community in which they work.  They have recently begun creation of a new work based on the life and works of Edgar Allan Poe.

Lisa's work on Mocean Dance is Beside Myself, Gasping (2008).
