There are two sides to every story...
Beside Myself, Gasping weaves ideas of crying and rain throughout the movement. Inspired by the interplay of left brain/right brain thought processes, Phinney Langley's choreography explores the constant struggle between instinct and reason that human beings must grapple with every day.
Originally premiered by Mocean in 2008, the piece evolved to have a cinematic quality. Phinney Langley worked with filmmaker Rohan Fernando to create and integrate a new film component, uncovering the relationship of the characters on stage and what has brought them to this state. The company presented the piece with this new rich and meaningful visual element in 2010, adding a new dimension to an already stunning piece.
